Poster Competition

The Technical Program Committee is excited to continue hosting the Poster Competition for the ACM Conference Series. The team invited all students and early career researchers (yrs 1-5) to enter the poster competition. Participants will compete for $100 gift cards.

Competition Specifications

Poster Display: Posters can be set up between 7:00 AM and 8:00 AM on December 5th at the start of the conference. They will be displayed throughout the full duration of the conference to allow for viewing and discussion.

Poster Display Specifications:

  1. Display must be no larger than 3’10” wide and 3’ tall
  2. Must be original information
  3. Printing: If you do not wish to travel with your poster, Fed Ex Davis can print for you. They can be emailed at: usa5112@fedex.com

Lighting Talk: On Wednesday evening, we will host our Lighting Talk Presentations. This is where you will have the opportunity for a two-slide two-minute presentation on stage. Once Lighting Talks conclude we will be hosting our annual Welcome and Poster Reception in the Lobby of the Conference Center. This is the time for you to discuss your poster contents with other attendees.

Lighting Talk Slides

  1. 1-2 slides
  2. No animations or sound
  3. Must clearly state the author’s name
  4. Suggestions: Remember, the lighting talks are a hook to bring attendees to your poster to ask questions. Showcase your main result to entice attendees to visit your poster location during the reception and ask further questions. Do not include long paragraphs of words, keep the words at a minimum and remember font size should be about 20pt+.
  5. Due Friday, November 29th

Competition Presentation: You will be permitted a 5-minute presentation with the judges to share additional information about your research beyond what was shared in your lighting talk. After the 5-minute presentation, the judges will have 3 minutes for follow up question & answer with you.

Judgement Criteria:

  • Scientific and Atmospheric Chemical Mechanism (Conference) Significance 
    • Does the poster display the latest advances in atmospheric chemical mechanisms and how these new discoveries can ultimately lead to policies that improve our air quality.
    • Does the research demonstrate broader societal impact?
  • Innovation
    • Does this research have the potential to make a novel contribution to the overall field?
  • Visual Appeal of Poster Materials
    • Are the components of the poster organized in a logical flow?
    • Is there a good balance of visuals, text and white space?
    • Does the poster stand on its own – in the absence of the presentation, lightning talk, etc?
  • Communication
    • Is there a clear explanation of Project Design and Methodology
    • Are the outcomes, conclusions and implications of the research clearly communicated?
    • Can the presenter engage in in-depth questions about the work?
  • Overall Presentation
    • How well does the presenter engage the audience?
    • Is the presentation free of jargon and accessible to a cross-disciplinary audience?
